  • Air Con Relay location?

    Hi All,

Trying to fault find my air con system and have got to the point of checking the relays, but I cannot find any information on which relays control the Air Con system components? Does anyone have a labeled diagram of the relays in the fuse box?

    So far checks have found the following;

    - Compressor clutch not engaging when aircon switch turned on
    - Centre of air con compressor easily turns by hand when checked
    - Pressure (not measured) found in the air con pipes when the schrader valve is quickly depressed
    - Condenser inspected, no damage
    - Air Con fuses checked OK
    - OB2 check shows no fault codes on the car
    - All wires/plugs look in good condition

In my head it's the relays to check next...

Any help you can give would be very appreciated - I have been melting in this heat recently!

    Have you cheked presure valves?
They control the magnetic coupling on the compressor.

I think you should leave the car to a troubleshooting workshop. They put tracerfluid in the system and pressure tests the system.
It is almost impossible to find leakage without tracer and vaccumtest.
But, test the pressure valves first. Easy to do [emoji4]

      Hi ulf,

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you talk me through how to check the pressure valves? This sounds like it is worth doing first.

      Thanks, Andy.

Hello skysmart, I would do as suggested above and get it looked at by a qualified automotive air con company,
Not the likes of hellfords or quackfit .
You may have pressure in the system as you have operated the schrader valve , but may not be enough pressure to kick in the comoressor .
It's a complex system which requires someone who is qualified.
Because they will do what is required
Look at the link below post number 10 gives you what they shoukd do as part of an air con service .

          Hi lizard,

As you say, it looks like I will need to take this on to a specialist. Thanks for sharing the other thread too.

Just out of interest, does anyone have a list of relay numbers as in my original request? I'm sure it will be something handy to have anyways!

          All the best, Andy.
