  • Water in Fuel Filter (Inactive?)

Hi everyone. I'm new to all this and usually just take my car to a garage and pay through the nose to not have my car fixed.

The service vehicle soon message came up so I took the car in for a service. As soon as I got the car back the message came back up and the car went into limp mode. They believed it to be a problem with the EGR valve so gave it a clean and cleared the code. Again the problem happened a few days later. They have then said it could be the DPF and siad they could remove the DPF and send it away to be cleaned. Instead I got a mobile DPF specialist to look at the codes and they have tested the system and the DPF is fine having regenerated 74 km ago. Cleared the codes but mentioned there was a code for water in fuel filter. Limp mode the next day but they came back out for free and checked the codes again, Water in fuel filter sensor code was active again and was saying inactive.

I have drained the fuel filter and there is definitely no water in it.

My question is, does anyone know where the sensor is in the fuel filter and can it be changed or is it part of the fuel filter housing and does that need changing? Easy job, or back to the garage now I have more information for them.

Howdy ho betucant, no ill fess up and I don't own an insignia. Being a Saab man , but the basics are somewhat the same .
Now depending on what sort of scanner they are using , it may not be reading the full diagnostic system .the reason why I say this is , I've never known a car go into limp mode through water in fuel .
But the insignia may throw a wobbly and go into limp mode due to the issue .
The sensor is intergrated into the filter housing and the whole filter housing has to be replaced .
Also a good thing replace the filter when replacing the housing .

Yeah the DPF guy was saying that the water in fuel sensor code would cause the DPF to code forcing it into limp mode. I'm just hoping thatss the end of my problems. Thanks
