  • Gearbox oil level.

    2011 2.0 cdti estate, 6 speed manual.
Is it possible to check gearbox oil level ?
I need to change off side drive shaft, gearbox oil recently changed according to service history, thought I could just top up what leaks out ?
    Thanks

    That's the f40 gearbox .
I know with the Saab 9-3/9-5 ( same gearbox ) there is a level plug half way down on the side of the gearbox facing the front of the engine bay .
    If not then just drain and re-fill 1.5 litres , 75w 80 .
Before you start just make sure you can get the filler plug out first .

Do you mean the level plug or through the hole when the drive shaft comes out? If it's the level plug then yes but fiddly that's why the filler plug is there .if you mean the hole when the drive shaft comes out.then no .

1.5 won't be enough as I remember, originally there was 2.8 than due to an issues with shafting the gears they have reduced that to 1.9-2.1. just double check online.

For the F40 box the amount you have to put in is 1.8 litres---[done mine]-it was reduced by VX------Dave
