    Hi All
I have been told my 2015 insignia with a automatic gearbox has got a problem. The mechanic said the clutch pack has gone and needs replacing at a cost of £2500. Has anyone had problems with this or can advise on this. The car has only done 31000 miles.
    Regards
    Barry

I stand to be correct but insignia auto dont have clutch pack but it has torque converter, 2.5k alone and poor diagnostic would make me take my business somewhere else, isignia auto boxes do suffer some problems but I would be inclined to take auto box specialist, give you little example last car I had was VW with dsg gearbox, needed new DMF, clutch pack, very expensive oil and total repair I was quoted £1600, so this 2.5k I would be expecting full gearbox rebuild.

Hi, it seems to rev a little higher going up and down hills, when it happens it’s as if it’s not going into the next gear properly.

4 years old and 31000 miles on it and the torque converters gone ?
Dose this happen when car is hot or cold or all the time ?
As above I would take it to a transmission specialist
Have you had the car long ?

I have had the car for 2 years, it happens when the car is warmed up. It’s not massively noticeable but i can tell the difference from when I first got it.

Well been honest going up a hill will hold the revs a bit longer same thing applies going down a hill will hold revs for engine braking, my auto box I can cruise at 60mph on flat section and soons as I get bit on hill with drop down to 5th, normally what you will notice with worn out torque converter is slipping like a clutch when you cruise and this can be notice on rev counter, example at 60 mph revs steady at 2k but when your torque converter is worn same speed and revs will hunt between 1800-2200rpm, I had this on BMW with ZF gearbox and torque converters are not serviceable item, yeah sure you will find someone online who can cut open and reweld later but it needs to be balanced correctly, which is easier said than done. Trust me much cheaper design then what VW is using.

If I was you I would take to gearbox specialist or find someone who can change oil on your gearbox, than run the car, there is lots of auto boxes problem where people don't change oil, but for the love please don't take the car where you had a quote from at 2.5k, nothing is for life as simple as that and oil should be changed in auto boxes

Thanks very much for your advice. Just one more thing when he put the diagnostic check on the gearbox on the car no errors or problems showed up if the torque converter had gone do you think it would of shown up anything? Thanks again

It indeed has some sort of detection for driving up and down hills causing it to shift later.
Mines also seems to have a special "mode" which is only active the first 20 minutes, when outside temperature is between 10 and 35 degrees and maximum speed is below 140 km/h. In this mode it shifts down much sooner then when this mode is not active. or not shifting at all, trying to keep revs above 2000 rpm. Normally it will do 90 km/h in 6th gear, when this mode is active it does it in 5th. When driving below 120 km/u (which it does 6th), only the smallest load will cause it to shift down to 5th. And each day after 20 minutes, this mode is deactivated and rpms are kept much lower.

I think it's Opels cheating software...

I've heard of cars needing a software update when their auto boxes have gone a bit ropy in the past. Something to consider if no mechanical faults are found.
