Why has everyone got diesels for doing short runs . I tempting to get a diesel again my commute to work is 22miles one way 44 return mostly dual carriageway & motorway. I used to average 50mpg from my vec c cdti 150, with this current siggy 1.6T I'm getting 36mpg. I do miss the 50mpg . So I'm looking into getting a equiv car that can do 50mpg again.

Looking good mcpitman.??Your OCD is worse than mine!
We are getting there.??I'll look at doing a graph of engine and bhp v mpg at about 20 ish people. At least they are all diesel so far, which will make it easier.
At least i'm not the worst on economy - Masterjee must have a heavy right foot! And sinless isn't far behind

well, mine is an 09 plate, probabky one of the firsts and they still have issues. I had a vectra c dti (prefacelift) which was absolutely brilliant on mpg. Probably will change the car in the next few years with a newer model, sorry, but I am a sucker for the Insignia. Don`t ask me why I love it, I just do. It`s a lovely car and as every second hand car would have issues. Besides that, been scrwed around by greedy mechanics (not affording to go to main dealer), so I will take it as a car thingie and will live with it. Been to Romania with the car, last year, around Easter, fully loaded with a roof box ont he top (don`t remember the consumption, but I was happy with it) !!!

I have added a bluespark tuning box so will monitor my MPG & report back if I see an increase although I doubt it very much as I have a seriously heavy right foot

PROZ??11 Plate 2.0 CDTi 160 SRi NAV AUTO since last fill ... 342 miles ... 43.0 mpg ...33.4 mph average.??10 mile journey to work all downhill but then 10miles back all uphill and the usual round town short trips... not much long distance or motorway driving.

Ignore the above, he must be trying to justify poor MPG from his own car!
I, along with many, many, others all get into the 50s on longer runs. The best I've personally got is 55mpg but that was probably nearer 95% motorway (over a 400 mile journey). My normal use which is around 65% motorway gets me 47-48mpg over a tank.

I don't believe you, I don't know anywhere in the UK you can average 60mph on a 90 mile run
I do
Staffordshire-Salford-Staffordshie via A500/M6/M62/M602/local roads. 110 mile round trip on a Sunday before 9:30am av speed 61.2mph

I had my remap checked as I wasn't getting any better MPG with the Economy remap...they re-sent another map done differently and all was well for about a week after, I'd gone from 35mpg to 36.4mpg.....now, for some odd reason it's dropped to 33mpg!
