Do not be fooled! They just teasing with the potential lowering of insurance costs because they want to get telematics into every car. Insurance companies have no interest in reducing prices, they want profit and they'll use that data it records against you. Just like big pharma has no interest in making people well. I for one will not bow to it. For example, you are driving down the road and someone pulls out on you, or a pedestrian steps out into the road. You brake hard to avoid a collision. This will be recorded and go against you. you DO NOT know what they are monitoring. It's just more big brother and they can feck off

What a load of tosh, so when you decide you want to put your foot down next month or you have to brake harsh they can send you letter with " due to your driving behavior change we will increase you premium from next month", I get enough of this **** at work will never have it in my own car , if this would ever become compulsory I just get a pushbike, anyone even considering this should seek medical help asap.

No the data will be gathered over the year. Then they will use whats recorded as an excuse to charge you more for insurance........and they will share the data with other insurers so you will not get your insurance cheaper elsewhere. They won't tell you why it's gone up though! Read below:

        Source https://www.moneysupermarket.com/car...car-insurance/

Telematics insurance has been gaining in popularity in recent years and even more so given the gender ruling in December 2012.

        So what is telematics?

A small box is installed in your vehicle, it works similar to a black box found in aircraft by recording everything that happens.

Insurers can then build a history of data about your driving and subsequently raise or drop the price of your car insurance.

This gives insurers a way of monitoring the location, movements, status and behaviour of a vehicle.

This new technology will really benefit young drivers aged 17-24 who, historically, have paid extortionate prices for their car insurance. This is set to change with the introduction of telematics.

A telematics box will record anything a driver does whether they are behind the wheel or not, for example where you park at night will be taken into consideration.

There are five key areas telematics technology assesses how motorists drive:

        Cornering
        Swerving
        Braking
        Speed

Acceleration Insurance providers will look to see if a driver has been approaching corners too quickly, taking turns at high speeds, braking and accelerating sharply and sticking to the speed limits.

I tow a tin ten around the country, motor has a Auto box, and it will know that I'm towing and adjust, to give a gear change at higher rev's. If, what you say is true, would the extra rev's/power needed be counted against me, if so, not interested.

There was a report about a month or so ago where a driver was hit with a bill of around £7000 I think and it was because the went out at night and it was recorded on a telematic box.

This is what the leading company uses on my van
And believe me to get a good score on this you have to drive like a very slow person
If you don't the thing picks it up and sends you a report.

That's the point I was making in an earlier post, the extra power and braking I need when towing my Van, will cost me a futune.

With the current rise in keyless car theft? I doubt it. If you have a car with keyless start, please keep the key inside a chest of draws away from doors or windows.

I keep my keys in a couple of faraday pouches to block the signal when not in use but oddly enough the Insignia has never been on the list of stolen keyless vehicles so either they have some good security or thieves think they're sh!t

It’s a great idea for the younger drivers but I’d never have it, I like driving the way I do.
