  • Auto gearbox problem

    Hi everyone

I know this has been covered before but this is my story
I have a 2010 estate auto 75k on the clock . When I put it in to drive it shunts forward this only happens when the engine is hot. After doing some research on this forum and others I changed the gearbox oil with genuine Vauxhall transmission oil which solved it for a month.
But now it’s back😔 anyone got any ideas what it could be and how to fix it
    Thanks

    Hello Rich
Did you do a complete transmission oil change or just the once ?
To do a complete change you really need to drain it ( measure how much comes out )
Refill with the same quantity. Run it through the gears and drive it fir a week or so then repeat the process about 3-4 times
As the old oil comes out check for colour and smell, if black and smelling burnt then the unit is wearing.
The reason why it takes 3-4 changes is because the torque converter holds a lot of oil and can take a long time to completely change it .

Thanks for the reply. I’ve done it once so far I’ll have another go and see what happens

There is a procedure that is called power flush, where all the oil is changed at once. Here some information about it. The article is about a Volvo, but as Volvo also uses the same Asian Warner box as Vauxhall/Opel, it should be similar.

There is also a oil filter too, but it's inside the box.

Well just done a second oil change and no difference it’s still there, looks like it’s going to be a garage job

Had a similar problem with my 2011 car. 3 (partial) oil changes didn’t fix it. In the end I took it to a gearbox specialist who connected it to a computer and diagnosed a fault with the valve set. I was looking at a £1500 bill to replace the valve body. Didn’t bother in the end and just cut my losses and traded it in.
