I don't either but I change oil twice a year so not really necessary I guess.

All* the engine flush products on the market are nonsense. There may be some benefit to emptying the oil, refilling with dirt-cheap supermarket oil, running very briefly, and then emptying it and filling with good oil.

(*All the ones I've checked, anyway.)

Tbqh, I reckon most cars built in the last couple of decades don't care much as long as they get roughly the right oil without going too far past the service intervals. It's hard to separate everything else from superstition.

    P.S.

Note the name. With a good excuse, you never need to do any job you don't want to

I'm not sure that's necessary. But it can't hurt (except your pocket). Have you tried selling the part-used oil on Ebay?

Saw an Audi Quatro once where the owner had used'engine flush' and damaged the cam shaft caps by scoring them, costly for him.Regular good quality/specific oil for type of engine and filter changes are a must for the 'modern' engines,my Insignia gets done twice a year regardless of milage, but that's just me with engine oil ocd!!!

I didn't say I'm not superstitious too. I always use the right oil, and for me it's always changed on age, not mileage, because I don't do many miles. But I'm not convinced it makes any difference. I'd just feel really stupid if I killed a car trying to save a fiver.

I think I'd be pretty foolish to only adhere to the usually exaggerated recommended manufacturers service interval(which seems to refer mainly to belt driven engines), if every part in this picture(plus the normal reasons you would service a car) is reliant on the state and quality of the oil. These consist of 2 chains, 2 tensioners, 6 guides, 2 camshaft valve actuators, 2 camshaft position actuators, let alone the expensive turbo to name a few. And any problems with this engine, is almost always something related to lack of maintenance. I know what I'd rather do for about £30 extra a year....

Quick update on the tappy start up, so I changed the oil and filter using dexos 2 and a premium filter and it's cured the tappy start up. Engine sounds loads happier so really pleased, if the problem re occurs I'll be changing the solenoids.
