You're gonna hate me but I think it's a bit of both where some breeds are concerned. Yes train and treat a dog well and it should be an obedient and friendly companion but just like a gun. Stick in in the hands of an idiot and its likely it will kill or maim someone. Do that with a potentially dangerous breed and you'll get the same result. Do that with a Yorkie or a Chihuahua and you're gonna get a nip.
Every time I hear a small child has been killed or left with life changing injuries, all I can think is why are these breeds still in existence.

Sorry.
It's a shame due to bad owners breeds get sutch a bad name, I would love people to get educated before anyone is allowed a dog.

Marko, I totally agree with you.
I couldn’t help but think when I read that poem that it would be seen very differently by the parent of a child that had come to harm from someone’s “dangerous breed”
I obviously realise not all dogs on the list are dangerous as owners do train them/bring them up differently, but your talking about the lives of your kids here.
Maybe I think differently because I like cats!

I'm sure if your away at work and kids and wife are in the house alone and someone decides to break in your opinion would be different
two sides to every coin tbf, kids should never be left alone with any dog so yet again falls at the owners door again...
Never get complacent with any dog is my opinion, any dog can be dangerous, humans cause more harm than any other animal put together so should we be wiped out?
Just a thought!

100% agree about education. Also not every Tom, Dick or Harry should be allowed any dog other than the smaller breeds I mentioned unless they have been assessed.
The Labrador is one of the most common breeds so the likelihood of more reported attacks is understandable. I don't know any facts but I very much doubt the attacks are of the same ferociousness as one of the dangerous breeds.
My understanding is that most dog breeds came about to do certain duties....Bear baiting, retrieving, flushing etc... Those breeds today still have the instinct they were first bread to use.
The correct training and handling suppresses that instint but it doesn't fully go away. It's just a ticking bomb waiting to go off.
I'll leave it at that because I don't want to p!ss anyone off unnecessarily. It's a debate that carries strong feelings on both sides. That's for sure.2017 Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport Sri Nav 1.5 (165ps) Turbo petrol in Lava Red - Keyless entry and start - 18” five spoke alloy wheels - Front fog lights - Tinted rear windows - Aluminium sports pedals - Ambient interior led lighting - Front and rear parking assist - Active emergency braking - Forward collision assist - Front pedestrian alert - Traffic sign recognition - Lane keep assist - Cruise control - Speed warning and limiter - Voice recognition - Bluetooth - Duel zone climate control - Front and rear electric windows - High beam assist - Auto lights - Auto wipers - Wifi hotspot - 8” colour touchscreen Navi 900 with Android Auto, Apple Car Play and DAB

Humans are our own worse enemy in many ways and I agree. However if I found out that the guy who lived down the street was a proven threat then I’d be keeping my family well away and trying to get rid of him.
I know lots of people love dogs and my opinion will offend them but it’s mine and I’ll be sticking with it.
It doesn’t matter anyway as dogs will be ruling the world soon. How many other animals have got us following them and picking up their ****! Clever animals!

I'm aware of the stigma he faces on a daily basis, I go back to humans once again as we have became more civilized sure other species should be given the same gratitude, it's only down to strict and assertive training and also fully understanding the breed that safety could be achieved.
If the stigma of these breeds would disappear per say all the numpties who buy them for gangster status wouldn't want them.
Just want to add I take no offence in any comments and welcome anyone's opinion tbh, I leave my feeling at the door going into this type of conversation.

I was brought up with dogs, learned to walk holding into a dog .
Agree with everything said above but to add on a slightly different note.
When we had our first child, we where not allowed to leave the hospital until we could prove we could do everything required and also both perform emergency 1st aid if required.
We have these rules for animals, yet what about the parents that bring kids up to do drugs, steal, fight, drive cars with no insurance etc.
Same applies there are always bad ones, but we stopped the death sentence years ago. Do think we should bring it back.
I wouldn't leave my child alone with any dog, as I wouldn't with any person who I even thought had 1% chance if anything bad happening.
Think my long winded point is the animals for the most just do what comes naturally, people choose to be bad. Animals have no way of avoiding the consequences, people do. It's difficult I agree on both sides. But people get loads of chances, a dog usually only had 1.Usual Elite specification;Dancing lights, up/down windows, sliding seats, on board atlas, slippery seats, musical bumpers, storm detectors, tubeless radio, female knight rider communication system, all seeing windscreen, cherry air freshener, auto moaning passengers, learner driver, shiny door pins, rear boom box, Heko smoked window hats, rear window sunglasses, 10 million candle flame reversing lights, matching number plate lights, shiny pedals, front and rear all seeing eyes, fully integrated interrogation system, empty bank account .

From birth we as humans are continuously learning, learning adjusts behaviour for better or worse.
One child living in a poor estate for example is statistically 85% more likely to commit a crime, they believe that style of upbringing has a huge part to play in that.
I believe it's conditioning that has changed us as humans just thinking 30 year back how bad the TV was just as an example.
What I'm trying to say yet again training is key
It's great to hear so many different opinions and reasoning
