  • Vauxhall Insignia 2014 Shaking Violently when in Drive (D) gear - Auto Transmission

    Hi
I have a Vauxhall Insignia 2014 (Automatic). I've had this car for over 2 years and have had no major issues. However, recently it started struggling to accelerate gracefully and I also noticed mild jerking when driving on motorways. There was also some oil leakage as well. So I took it to my garage and he said that the oil leaking was not the engine oil but the gearbox oil so he flushed the system and re-filled the gearbox oil. He said he had to put a new radiator in as well as it had a crack.
I got the car back after all the works were done and it started driving beautifully (no oil marks on the street where I park) and no jerking or struggling to accelerate either. However, the same day I got the car from the garage I discovered that it developed a new problem which is that every time I put the car to Drive gear (D) it shakes/jerks violently (very forceful shake). It only does it on a warm engine after driving around for 10-15 minutes. It does not do it on a cold engine. I also don't experience this in any other gear.
I took the car back to my garage and he said he had never seen anything like it before. I took the car to him when the engine was warm so I could show him the problem. He said he will change the gearbox oil again to see if it helps but unfortunately I got the car back today and it has exactly the same issue (i.e. the problem is still there).

See video URL at the bottom please

Has any of you experienced it? Any ideas on what could be the cause of it?
The car has done approximately 92000 miles on the clock.
Please advise as I am really concerned that I've paid so much money and the issue is still there.
I anxiously wait for ur response.
    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks - Do you think it's safe to drive around with an issue like this until I get it resolved?
Like I said there is no issue in Driving but only in Start/Stop traffic when I am putting my car into D (Drive) gear.

Probably not ideal if it is a mount as it'll be putting stress elsewhere

Can you not get someone to put it into Drive whilst you're looking at the box through the engine bay? You can then confirm for any movement once drive engages

this can happen when the engine ecu loses comms with the gearbox it will jump badly when going into drive....

also when its low on gearbox oil.... Have experienced both of these causes myself..

plus theres the gearbox mount as suggested above as well

So i took my car to Vauxhall/Murketts to get a proper diagnosis done.
Unfortunately it's bad news for me as they said that the gearbox oil was silver and burnt and there is evidence that elements of it had gone inside the gearbox.
They said a reconditioned automatic gearbox would cost around £2600 + VAT (to have it replaced) thead

Anyone has had to deal with something similar? What would your recommendation/advice be? Is there anywhere where the gearbox could be sourced from other than Vauxhall?

ebay or a salvage yard...I would also get a 2nd opinion from a gearbox specialist
