Mounting Dash cam on dotted area

If your using a sticky pad then yes. If it's a suction mount then you will have trouble keeping it on.

Do you mean can you do it physically, or legally?

All depends on what sensors you have. I have mine outside the dotted area but it's still pretty much behind the rear view mirror. Just remember if the dash cam has a screen on it make sure it's closed over or off. Running camera with screen show anything is illegal.

I think you'll be fine if its getting held on with sticky pad. Only thing is you'll need to keep it in all the time instead of taking it off and on when required. Although, mines is on with a suction cup and I just leave mine. It's small enough that it's hardly noticeable.
