The auto is ok. Once you get used to it you can live with it. My biggest bug bare is the ratio's. It sits at higher rev's and doesn't change up and you can't change it manually as it comes up with the warning 'shift denied'. It most obvious in traffic sitting around 30mph. Sits in 3rd and jumps to 4th only when over 30 and then back to 3rd and so on. Can't make it's mind up!! If you do a lot of A roads or motorway driving this is not a issue! My 3 BMW's autos were light years ahead and my Scirroco DSG was even better. To be honest I don't notice the issues any more. MPG around town us about 35 and motorway 45-50! Mines is the diesel

    160. Hope this helps!!

I wanted a manual when I went to change the car but she who must be obeyed said she wouldn't drive a manual again after 10 years with the Omega. I haven't experienced the problems of others on here with the auto box although the Omega did have similar traits. I like it I like to treat it fairly gently anyway and so I've only floored it a couple of times from standstill and didn't notice an issue.

As regards the Winter setting I thought they dropped it because the traction control takes care of that for you.
    Regards
    Brian

Why does the manual need a dmf and the auto doesn't?

Can't get my head around this

Way over my head. If I don't need to use a clutch I'm happy with or without a DMF!!!

What I go by, rightly or wrongly is the fact that speedo's tend to be a Loire out so sit at 32/33 and it doesn't move down. However, in traffic it is bloody annoying. It's the first auto I've had that does it!!

Software upgrades fill me with dread. Some can make them better or in my case just down right bloody awful. If it does the 5th/6th thing again bang it into semi auto and it will stay in 6th to just under 50.

Sell it. The autobox's are shite when they go. I went to war with VX over mine. They had it 6 weeks in Luton, featured in Auto Express and the Sunday Judge in the Sunday Mail. Got no where. All the issues were characteristics of the autobox. So 28.4mpg acceptable, chugging when cold and virtually stalling when coasting and jumping around gears when at 30mph amongst other things.

If definitely get a second opinion or third. Did you buy car from VX dealer? Open a case with VX customer care. If you want straight to the executive team who do have a bit of clout, PM me and I'll give you the number.

Hope you can get it sorted, mate. When the box is working properly it is nice, not the smoothest but good.

to be honest I cannot recall a car that has the gear selection markers on the RHS - no doubt I am wrong and this forum will prove me wrong. OK the selection does show up on the centre display on the dashboard, but the right would be beneficial to the drive, but presumably it is set this way as most Insignia would be left hand drive as they would be opel for the European market, and Britain is a 2nd thought as is most things in the countries

My selectors are on the right.

Final post on my Gearbox issue - have now had 7 additional opinions and each time it has failed to produce the noise till after I have left the premises! typical.

So in brief, wasted £90 with a gearbox specialist who I can only guess, guessed my problem and enjoyed my petrol after 4 pointless road test putting extra mileage on the car, after i told them everything, got additional 6 opinions and finally agreed with a recommended to me gearbox specialist who said if it aint broke wait for it to brake use it til the fault gets worse then bring it to me, so we have. Still drive nicely but most importantly her in doors loves the car ! One final thing local VX dealer has said if we bring the car in they could get a claim put in with VX CS and get a poss 70/30 60/40 type of split after a refurbed box fitted. so if anybody has a box issue and out of VX warranty.

Final question please - are these gearboxs sealed with lifetime oil or can you change the oil like any other car ???? did ask the first Box specialist to do but ..............

From my experience I believe its a sealed box. I may be wrong.
