  • Weekend tinkering.

We’ll it’s been a tough few months for us so today decided to have some mechanical therapy for myself and started to look at changing the sump oil seal.
Really enjoy tinkering on the cars so set about stripping the sump off to change the seal, so it’s almost ready to remove just need to drill the holes into the gearbox to access the hidden bolts then it’ll be off.
Once this is done it’ll be rear discs and pads then later in the week it’s MOT time. Fingers crossed for a pass if not more tinkering whoop whoop.

Now chilling with a few ciders.

Enjoy your weekend lads and lassies I know I am.

    Weekend tinkering.

    All done and dusted.

Old seal was a lot firmer than the new one. Cars done just under 110k so was definitely time to change it.
Hadn’t had any low pressure warnings but didn’t want to risk it.

    Notches.

Showing gap between casing and flywheel

Cleaned read for putting back together.

    All sealed up.

I’ve also noticed I’ve oil staining so have a leak or weep further up that I’ll need to look into in the near future.

All in all not a bad wee job rather enjoyed myself tinkering away in the sunshine.

Nice job. What’s the hardest part about doing it?

I actually found it ok not to bad a job plenty access apart from the 2 at flywheel side.

I’ve always tinkered with cars and even difficult awkward jobs just plod along they are what they are you’ll get there in the end.

I’m quite mechanically minded and wouldn’t mind doing this myself as I refuse to pay a garage to do it.

Do you have to take the driveshaft out or can it be done without doing that?

If you were local you could have borrowed mine I’ve a few sets.
I’ve used railway sleepers and breeze blocks in the past and still do sometimes find them better than stands.
